Michael Wong is an independent film and creative director with over two decades of experience across China and Malaysia. He began his career in the late ’90s, holding senior roles at top agencies including Ogilvy, BBDO, TBWA, Grey, and Saatchi & Saatchi. After a decade in advertising, he transitioned into filmmaking, debuting as a writer/director with a global Lenovo campaign across markets such as India, Russia, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. He has since directed commercials and branded films across categories including automotive, technology, IoT, corporate, FMCG, sports & apparel, and banking. Known for his collaborative mindset and visual storytelling, Michael excels at transforming small ideas into compelling cinematic experiences. His debut short film ‘The Story of 90 Coins’ earned over 70 accolades and was praised in more than 140 international film reviews and critic articles. His follow-up ‘The Tattooist’ continued the earning multiple awards and nominations across genre-focused competitions and over 110 reviews and features from film critics and media platforms. Michael’s work has been featured in Shots, Trendwatching, and Graphis, and he has served as a jury member for the New York Festivals Advertising Awards, IAA Awards, and Ad Stars Festival. Pushing creative boundaries, he is currently leveraging Generative AI to explore new frontiers in visual, conceptual, and narrative storytelling—merging emerging technologies with cinematic craft.
